AIRFIELD PROCEDURE part 01

UNIT-01

GROUND HANDLING AND SAFETY 

For specific operation,applicable to a particular Aircraft,refer appropriate service manual

SAFETY PRECAUTION


a.GENERAL

(01)  USE PROPER EYE AND EAR PROTECTION,ALSO PROPER DRESS,FOR THE JOB BEING PERFORMED
(02) TECHNICIAN SHOULD ONLY OPERATE EQUIPMENT WITH WHICH THEY ARE FAMILIAR AND CAN OPERATE SAFELY.
(03) HAND TOOLS SHOULD BE KEPT IN PROPER WORKING ORDER.
(04) TECHNICIAN SHOULD KNOW THE LOCATION OF FIRST AID AND EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT.
(05) HIGHEST STANDARD OF ORDERLY WORK ARRANGEMENTS AND CLEANLINESS SHOULD BE OBSERVED,WHILE MAINTAINING AN AIRCRAFT.
(06) GOOD HOUSE KEEPING IN HANGERS.SHOPS,AND ON THE FLIGHT LINE IS ESSENTIAL.
(07) POWER CORD AND AIR HOSES SHOULD BE STRAIGHTENED,COILED AND PROPERLY STORED.WHEN NOT IN USE.
(08) OIL,GREASE AND OTHER SUBSTANCES SPILLED ON THE HANGER OR SHOP FLOORS SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY CLEANED OR COVERED WITH AN ABSORBENT MATERIAL,TO PREVENT FIRE OR PERSONAL INJURY.
(09) DRIP TRAYS SHOULD BE PLACED BENEATH ENGINES AND ENGINE PARTS, WHENEVER DRIPPING EXISTS.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD OIL OR CLEANING FLUID BE EMPTIED IN TO FLOOR DRAINS. 

(10) WELDING SHOULD ONLY BE PERFORMED IN DESIGNED AREAS UNDER A CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT.
b. COMPRESSED-GAS SAFETY  

COMPRESSED GASES ARE USED IN THE MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING OF AIRCRAFT.

(01) HANDLE COMPRESSED GASES CYLINDERS CAREFULLY
(02) ALWAYS USE SAFETY GLASSES,WHEN HANDLING AND USING COMPRESSED GASES.
(03) NEVER USE ,A CYLINDER THAT CANNOT BE POSITIVELY IDENTIFIED.
(04) WHEN STORING OR MOVING A CYLINDER,HAVE THE CAP SECURELY IN PLACE TO PROTECT THAT VALVE STEM.
(05) WHEN LARGE CYLINDERS ARE MOVED,STRAP THEM TO A PROPERLY DESIGNED WHEEL CART TO ENSURE STABILITY.
(06) USE APPROPRIATE REGULATOR.
(07)  NEVER DIRECT COMPRESSED GAS OR AIR AT A PERSON.
C.FLIGHT-LINE SAFETY

AIRCRAFT SERVICE PERSONAL SHOULD DEVELOP THE FOLLOWING SAFETY HABITS.

(01) TREAT ALL PROPELLERS AS THOUGH THE IGNITION SWITCH ARE ”ON”
(02) CHOCK AIR PLANE WHEELS,BEFORE WORKING AROUND THE AIRCRAFT.
(03) USE WHEEL CHOCKS AND PARKING BRAKES,BEFORE STARTING ENGINES.
(04) ATTACH PULL ROPES TO PULL CHOCKS FROM WHEELS,CLOSE TO ROTATING PROPELLERS OR ROTOR BLADES.
(05) BEFORE MOVING A PROPELLER, OR CONNECTING AN EXTERNAL POWER SOURCE TO AN AIRCRAFT,BE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS *CHOCKED * MIXTURE IS IN IDLE CUT-OFF POSITION AND ALL EQUIPMENT AND PERSONAL ARE CLEAR OF THE PROPELLER OR ROTOR.
(06) WHEN REMOVING AN EXTERNAL POWER SOURCE FROM AN AIRCRAFT,KEEP THE EQUIPMENT AND YOUR-SELFCLEAR OF THE PROPELLER OR ROTOR.
(07) ALWAYS STAY CLEAR OF THE PROPELLER BLADE PATH OR ROTOR,WHEN MOVING THE PROPELLER OR WHEN THE ENGINES ARE WARM.
(08) CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN TO ENSURE,THAT THE RUN-UP AREA IS CLEAR OF ALL ITEMS,SUCH AS NUTS,BOLTS ROCKS,RAGS OR OTHER LOOSE DEBRIS
